Library Report from Garry Moore of Janali High School
February 2012

Popular with boys in particular at the moment are the range of Halo books, both the graphic novels and regular novels. These books are based on the science fiction computer game.

The Diary of a Wimpy Kid books keep walking off the shelves and, as always, the Andy Griffith Just ....... books are in constant circulation.

However the most commonly used books (though not often borrowed) are the Where's Wally collection!

Lake Illawarra High School Library Report

Mrs. Kerry Rae, Teacher Librarian at Lake Illawarra High School Library has provided us with the following report on the most popular books for Term 2, 2011. Thanks Kerry!

The most popular books this term were anything about Justin Bieber.

This includes:
*  100% official Justin Bieber: first step 2 forever : my story by Justin Bieber
*  Justin Bieber : 3D : the 100% unofficial biography by Evie Parker
*  Justin Bieber uncovered : unauthorised by Tori Kosara

There were photographs in the April 2011 issue of Dolly magazine with a giant larger than life size pin up of Justin Bieber which had the girls begging me to give them.  One lucky girl was the recipient to the envy of all others. Some of the boys wanted to take it down or else but it survived!

Other popular titles this term included many Vampire books – yes they are still popular. The trend is continuing, especially with book series.

Examples include:
* Passion by Kate Lauren – Book 3 in the Fallen series
* Defiance by Lili St. Crow – Book 4 in the Strange Angels series
* Last Sacrifice by Richelle Mead from the Vampire Academy series
* Fire World by Chris d’Lacey – Book 6 in the Last Dragon Chronicles series
* Monster Revenge by Dean Lorey – Book 2 in the Nightmare Academy series

The Dead series by Charlaine Harris are also very popular with titles including Dead reckoning, Dead until dark, Dead and gone and Dead in the family.

Other popular titles include Throne of Fire by Percy Jackson and Demon Collector by Jon Mayhew.

With the school holidays approaching there were many student leaving the library with plenty of reading material to keep them occupied. Great to see the book is not dead!

Happy reading!

Report from Librarian, Kerry Rae.

The most popular book in my library is the Guinness book of records.  Students are constantly borrowing it or just browsing through it during recess and lunch. It is rarely on the shelves but the students all know where it belongs. I have the latest one, 2011, and all the past years and if they can’t get the latest book they are always happy to have a look at past years.

The most popular new book is Kardashian Konfidential.  This is all about the famous Kardashian sisters and has many colour photographs of the girls and provides information about them and their lives. This was requested by a student and since buying it I have had another 2 requests for this book.  Justin Bieber is also very popular at the moment and any book about him doesn’t stay on the shelves for long.

Vampire books are always very popular with many authors cashing in on this craze. Authors such as Stephanie Meyer,  L. J. Smith, P.C. Cast, Charlaine Harris and Richelle Mead  are very popular and these are all well read. Fantasy books are popular with authors such as Chris d’ Lacey, and J.K. Rowling amongst the favourites.

As students find a series they like, they request the next book in the series such as Linger by Maggie Stiefvater, Scorpia by Anthony Horowitz and Afterlife by Claudia Gray.

Graphic novels are quite popular and this appears to be a growing trend for the reluctant readers.  In this area, popular titles include Vampire knight, Cirque Du Freak and Negima.  The books students also find enjoyable are ones that require the reader to open flaps, or lift out a list or feel an object such as Demonology, Dragonology and Egyptology.

Magazines are also popular and I subscribe to titles that students are interested in such as Riptide, Movement, Dolly and O.K!
